VACCINATION AND HEALTH

There are no mandatory vaccines required to enter the country.

It is important to consult your travel physician before you travel to Africa for advice on precautions against malaria, as well as any other required vaccinations.

Methods of prevention are encouraged to protect your health while on safari: legs, feet and arms should always be covered from 6pm onwards.

If you are taking any prescription medicines, be sure to bring the required dosage with you, so that you don’t run out while on holiday. It is also advisable to travel with copies of your prescriptions.

BAGGAGE REQUIREMENTS

Please adhere to the maximum weight limit of 15 kilos for your luggage (per person). This is standard for all air transfers to national parks.

Soft bags are requested for easy storage.

Bath, pool, and beach towels are provided in each lodge.

Bathrobes, shower products and a hairdryer are also provided in each lodge.

Indoor slippers are not available, for sustainable and ecological reasons:

(there are no local suppliers and slippers must be discarded after each use)

For our safaris camps:

- Neutral khaki coloured safari clothing, no bright or dark colours

- Ruaha, Nyerere and Serengeti have a cooler climate so we recommend both short sleeves and shorts for the day and long sleeved/trousered clothing for the evening and possibly a fleece for morning walks and game drives

We strongly advise against wearing leopard print clothing and perfume while on safari.

For Fanjove:

- Casual beach wear

- The island can get very hot/humid so we recommend cotton, lightweight shorts and short sleeve shirts.

MONEY

The official currency of Tanzania is the Tanzanian Shilling (or shilingi in Swahili). One shilling is divided into 100 cents or “senti” in Swahili. However, the currency has been so inflated that “senti” coins are no longer circulated or used.

Our advice is to use US Dollars only – and in cash: credit cards and traveller's cheques (although accepted in most establishments) incur transaction fees. ATMs are found throughout the major towns and cities in Tanzania, but not in the national parks and game reserves where our camps are located.

Note: US Dollar bills printed before 2006 are not accepted in Tanzania.

TIPPING

You are travelling on an independent itinerary and the cost of your program does not include gratuities. Tipping is a very personal matter and should only be considered when our team has gone above and beyond for you.

Should you feel you would like to acknowledge their service, as a rough guide we recommend that you tip between USD$ 10 and USD$15 per person per day

Tanzanian salaries are not very high, so we encourage you to show your appreciation by tipping team members.

It is advisable to tip your guide separately to the rest of the staff.
